This article is a bit too late, but I’m writing it down as a record.
On this day, we made Valentine’s Day cards in preparation for the upcoming holiday. I don’t think making Valentine’s Day cards is a common tradition for us Japanese, but in America, Valentine’s Day is a day for everyone, regardless of gender, to enjoy, and it’s typical to make and exchange cards. Schools also celebrate it on a large scale. At the school I attended, it was a homework assignment to write cards for all of your classmates the day before Valentine’s Day.
Anyway, here we are —everyone made cards for their loved ones. In fact, my son also made a card, and it was made to express his love and gratitude to his father.
I think it’s wonderful that there is a day dedicated to expressing love to someone special. I hope this Valentine’s card becomes widely known in Japan as well.
この記事は少し遅くなってしまいましたが、記録として書いておきます。
この日は、来るバレンタインデーのためにバレンタインカードを作りました。私たち日本人にはバレンタインカードを作る習慣はあまりないと思いますが、アメリカではバレンタインデーは男女関係なくみんなが楽しむ日で、カードを作ってお互いに渡すのが一般的です。学校でも大々的にします。私が通っていた学校では、バレンタインデーの前日にクラスメート全員にカードを書くことが宿題でした。
この日、それぞれがみんな、大切な人のためにカードを作りました。実は、うちの息子もカードを作ったのですが、それは彼のお父さんへの愛と感謝を伝えるためでした。
誰か大切な人に愛を伝えるための日があるのは個人的に素晴らしいことだと思います。このバレンタインカードが日本でも広く知られるようになると素敵だな、とも思います。

心のこもったバレンタインカード、パパは嬉しかったでしょうね。なんだかチョコをあげる日になっているけど、私も来年はこども達とカードを作ろうかな？
